I found him standing in a little patch of
clear space by himself, sipping his drink and looking a little
bemused by the antics of a group of partygoers that he was
watching. "Duane!" I exclaimed, putting a hand on his
shoulder and turning him around. He lifted his eyebrows in
surprise at the sight of the camera in my hand; gamely, he smiled
and raised his plastic cup to the lens. "Cheers," he
said quietly, despite the deafening music thumping in the
background.
I snapped the picture and leaned in to kiss him on the cheek. I
could smell alcohol faintly on his breath. "Don't get
yourself drunk," I nagged him.
"I'll be a good boy, mother," he promised with a small
smile.
Done with a 2B mechanical pencil on half an A4-sized sheet of
printing paper. Passed through Photoshop to enhance
brightness/contrast/shading, and to add the border.
